Committees

Academic & Professional Development

Responsible for hosting events and activities that will bring together graduate and professional students from across schools to engage in academic discussion and to foster mutual learning. This committee also works closely with the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) in Arts & Sciences to put on the annual Graduate Research Symposium in the spring.

Positions include: VP of Academic & Professional Development, Alumni Liaison, Libraries Liaison, Policy Liaison, Student Group Liaison, Violence Prevention (RSVP) Center Liaison, other GPC representatives, and general members.

Community Service and Civic Engagement

Unites the campus through community service by encouraging community outreach, making graduate students aware of opportunities to serve on campus, partnering with the Community Service Office (CSO), and supporting community service initiatives from the various graduate and professional schools. Has been actively engaged in initiatives like Relay for Life, PB & Joy (University-Wide Food Drive), and the Alberti Program in recent years, and has also organized an annual community service reception for graduate and professional students.

Positions include: VP of Community Service & Civic Engagement, Gephardt Institute Liaison, Recruitment Liaison, Diversity and Inclusion Liaison, other GPC representatives, and general members.

Marketing & Communications

Plans and executes promotional campaigns for Graduate Professional Council events and activities. Tasks include designing marketing materials and general support for GPC committee programming.

Positions include: VP or Marketing & Communications, Social Media Liaison, Public Affairs Liaison, other GPC representatives, and general members.

Social Programming

Develops programming of social events that help graduate and professional students explore the culture of Washington University and the greater St. Louis community. Events include annual attendance at Cardinals and Blues games, visits to cultural venues such as museums and theaters, and opportunities to experience other musical, artistic, and social events. Tasks include event planning, budgeting, promotion, and soliciting and drafting contracts with off-campus venues.
