: Message regarding executive order on immigration

January 31, 2017

Fellow graduate and professional students,

We reach out today in response to the executive order signed by the President of the United States on Friday. While we are mindful that immigration is a multifaceted issue, this order will have an impact on the WashU graduate student community and we are deeply concerned about its adverse effects. Therefore, we echo the sentiments of our Chancellor, in saying that this executive order should be withdrawn.

If you wish to take action we’d like to invite you to join us in calling our congressional representatives. The National Association of Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS) is uniting graduate and professional students across the nation to call together on February 1st. They have a number of resources on their Facebook page which may help in making this call. Additionally, we encourage you to seek out resources and information provided through the Office of International Students and Scholars.

We truly value the opportunity to serve as a source support for each of you, and we will to continue to play a role in ensuring that we are all able to pursue graduate education at its highest caliber.
