Welcome

On behalf of the Graduate Professional Council, I would like to welcome you to Washington University in Saint Louis. With a constituency of more than 6,000 graduate and professional students from all eight schools at Washington University in Saint Louis, the Graduate Professional Council (which is commonly referred to as the GPC) is the multidisciplinary student group that advocates and represents the campus-wide graduate and professional student body at Washington University. As the GPC has accomplished a great deal in the recent past, please read on to learn more about GPC events planned for the upcoming year as well as ways for you to get involved.

Events

While representing and advocating for the mutual interests of the graduate and professional students, the GPC has increased the number of events planned for the 2009-2010 academic year. In addition to annual programming such as the evening at the Saint Louis Symphony, numerous social/networking events, the Graduate Research Symposium, and the Graduate Student Art Exhibit, the GPC now offers three event series: GPC Presents, GPC Professional Series, and GPC Night Out. These three event series are designed to assist students with both professional and personal development as well as bring students together for informal events throughout the Saint Louis area. All GPC programming events (as well as events open to all graduate and professional students posted by university groups) can be viewed on the GPC event calendar at http://gpc.wustl.edu.

Get Involved

There are numerous ways for graduate and professional students to get involved with both the GPC and Washington University in Saint Louis at large. Two graduate students from each school are appointed to serve as GPC representatives each year, but all graduate and professional students are welcome to attend meetings and to participate on committees.

The GPC executive board, GPC representatives, and I hope to see you at GPC events and encourage you to reach out beyond your specific graduate and professional programs to participate fully in the Washington University community. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the GPC via e-mail at gpc@wustl.edu.

Sincerely,
Sean Murphy
President, GPC
